Is It Permissible to Rent a Shop to a Barber Who Shaves Beards?

❖ Sharʿī Ruling on the Income of a Barber Who Shaves Beards & Renting a Shop to Him ❖
Question:

Is the income of a barber who shaves or trims beards impermissibly considered ḥarām? And is it also impermissible to rent a shop to such a barber?

Answer by:
Fadhīlat al-ʿĀlim Ḥāfiẓ Khuḍr Ḥayāt ḥafiẓahullāh

❀ Ruling on Shaving the Beard:

Shaving the beard or trimming it below the Sharʿī limit is a prohibited (ḥarām) act in Islam.
✔ Therefore, a person who earns a living primarily through shaving others’ beards is engaged in an impermissible profession, and his income is considered sinful.

❀ Ruling on Renting a Shop to Such a Barber:

❌ It is not permissible to rent a shop to a barber who engages in this unlawful practice, because doing so falls under the category of assisting in sin.

📖 Allah ﷻ says in the Qur’an:

"وَتَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْبِرِّ وَالتَّقْوَىٰ وَلَا تَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْإِثْمِ وَالْعُدْوَانِ ۚ وَاتَّقُوا اللّٰهَ ۚ إِنَّ اللّٰهَ شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ"

"Cooperate in righteousness and piety, and do not cooperate in sin and transgression. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is severe in punishment."
[Surah al-Mā’idah: 2]

✅ Conclusion:

◈ A barber who shaves beards is involved in a ḥarām act, and his primary earnings from this service are not permissible.
Renting a shop to such a person amounts to active cooperation in sin, and is Sharʿan prohibited.
◈ A Muslim should avoid assisting or facilitating sinful practices in any form.
