Question:
Is it permissible to recite from the Mushaf (physical copy of the Quran) during Tarawih prayer and Salah al-Kusuf (prayer for solar eclipse)? Kindly guide us. May Allah grant you benefit.
Answer:
There is no harm in reciting from the Mushaf during Qiyam al-Ramadan (Tarawih prayer), as the objective is to allow the congregation to hear the complete recitation of the Quran. Moreover, Shari'ah-based evidence from the Quran and Sunnah supports the recitation of the Quran during Salah, and this general ruling includes both reciting from memory and reading from the Mushaf.
It is also proven from Aisha (رضي الله عنها) that she appointed her freed slave to lead her in Ramadan prayer, and he used to recite from the Mushaf. Imam Al-Bukhari (رحمه الله) has mentioned this narration in his Sahih in a definitive manner as a Mu'allaq report.
