Ruling on Paying Zakat with Clothes Instead of Money

The Question:
Is it permissible for a person to give clothes or other items instead of money as zakat?
Answer:
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ‘alā Rasūlillāh. Ammā ba‘d:
- It is not permissible to give clothes or other goods in place of money as payment for zakat.
- Zakat must be discharged in the form of the wealth upon which it is due — whether cash, gold, silver, livestock, or crops — according to Shar‘i requirements.
Conclusion:
Zakat cannot be substituted with clothes or non-monetary goods unless these items themselves are the zakatable wealth.
