Is It Permissible to Name Someone "Nabiyyullāh"? Islamic Ruling Explained

📛 The Islamic Ruling on Naming Someone "Nabiyyullāh" (نبی اللہ)

❓ Question:

Is it Islamically permissible to name someone "Nabiyyullāh" (i.e., “Prophet of Allah”)?

📖 Answer by:

Shaykh Ḥāfiẓ Khidr Ḥayāt (ḥafiẓahullāh)

📜 Sharʿī Ruling:

It is impermissible to name someone "Nabiyyullāh".

📌 Reason:

  • The phrase "Nabiyyullāh" literally means "Prophet of Allah".
  • Any person bearing this name cannot truly be a prophet, as prophethood has ended with the final Messenger ﷺ.
  • Using this name can lead to serious misunderstanding and misguidance, potentially implying that the person is a prophet, which is a false and dangerous claim.
  • Therefore, such a name should be strictly avoided.
