Is it permissible to eat while standing?
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ʾAmma baʿd!
◈ The ruling for eating is the same as that for drinking, since both are similar actions.
◈ In this regard, the authentic narrations found in Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim concerning drinking clearly prohibit drinking while standing.
◈ Therefore, when standing while drinking is forbidden, it follows by analogy that eating while standing should also be avoided.
◈ On this basis, it is recommended to refrain from eating while standing, in adherence to the spirit of the Sunnah.
