❖ Post-Burial Adhan: A Practice Not Established in Shari'ah
The act of calling the Adhan after burying a deceased at the grave is not sanctioned by Islam. In fact, it is deemed an innovation (Bid'ah), as no authentic evidence exists in the Qur'an or Sunnah to support this practice.❖ No Basis in Prophetic Tradition
The Prophet ﷺ said:"Whoever introduces into this affair of ours (i.e., Islam) that which is not from it, it is rejected."
This clear Hadith underlines that any practice not rooted in the teachings of Islam is rejected, and grave-side Adhan after burial is one such practice.
❖ False Attribution to Imam Shafi‘i
Some people claim that Imam Shafi‘i رحمه الله permitted this practice, but this is a false attribution. In fact:✔ Hafiz Ibn Hajar رحمه الله, a major Shafi‘i scholar, explicitly refuted this notion and declared such an act a Bid'ah.
✔ Even authoritative Hanafi sources like Fatāwā Shāmī (Radd al-Muḥtār) clearly state that reciting Adhan at the grave is an innovation.
❖ Summary
➊ Calling the Adhan at the grave after burial is not established in Islam.➋ Imam Shafi‘i has not endorsed this practice; attributing it to him is incorrect.
➌ This act falls under innovation and misguidance, and Muslims are advised to follow only that which is authentically established in the Qur'an and Sunnah.
