Is It Permissible for a Mu'takif to Bathe Without a Shar'i Need?

Written by: Hafiz Zubair Ali Zai (رحمه الله)

❖ Question:

Is it correct to say that a person in I'tikaf should not bathe unless there is a Shar'i (Islamically recognized) need?

❖ Answer:

It is permissible for a Mu'takif (person observing I'tikaf) to bathe whenever he wishes. There is no prohibition in the Shari'ah regarding this matter.
However, the bathing should be done within the mosque’s designated washroom facilities.
It is not permissible for a Mu'takif to leave the boundaries of the mosque without a valid Shar'i excuse.
