Is It Necessary to Believe in the Jinn?

Authored by: Dr. Raza Abdullah Pasha

❀ Question:

Is it necessary to believe in the jinn?

✔ Answer:

Yes! Belief in the unseen is a fundamental part of Islamic creed, and in fact, it is the very first characteristic with which Allah has described the believers in the Qur'an.
Allah Almighty says:
"Alif-Lam-Meem. This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah – who believe in the unseen, establish prayer, and spend out of what We have provided for them."
[Al-Baqarah: 1–3]
In this noble verse, Allah describes the believers as those who believe in the unseen, which includes belief in the existence of jinn.
There are numerous Qur’anic verses and Hadiths that affirm the existence of jinn. Some of these verses include:
[Al-Ahqaf: 29]

"And [mention, O Muhammad], when We directed to you a few of the jinn, listening to the Qur'an..."
[Al-An‘am: 130]

"O assembly of jinn and mankind, did there not come to you messengers from among yourselves..."
[Ar-Rahman: 33]

"O assembly of jinn and men, if you are able to pass beyond the regions of the heavens and the earth..."
[Al-Jinn: 6]

"And that there were men from mankind who sought refuge in men from the jinn..."
These evidences clearly demonstrate that belief in jinn is an essential part of belief in the unseen (Ghaib), and a necessary element of faith (Iman).
