«من استطاع منكم أن ينفع أخاه فليفعل»
"Whoever among you can benefit his brother, let him do so."
[Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, Ḥadīth no. 2199]
Treating a patient is at times recommended (mustaḥabb) and at other times obligatory (wājib) — because the patient is in a state of vulnerability, and helping the oppressed is obligatory. The Prophet ﷺ instructed us to support and aid the oppressed.
It is appropriate for the afflicted person to engage in duʿā’ (supplication) and dhikr (remembrance of Allah). However, it is not permissible to command, imprison, scold, curse, or abuse the afflicted individual. Those who do so commit injustice upon themselves.
Some harsh practitioners threaten the possessed with death, which is not permissible, or order them to be imprisoned, which is unnecessary. Such unjust behavior provokes the jinn to retaliate — sometimes leading to death, illness, or harm to family members.
On the contrary, the one who adheres to justice and follows the guidance of Allah and His Messenger ﷺ, will not wrong others. Instead, he will help the oppressed, support the helpless, and strive to remove affliction — all through Shariʿah-compliant means that avoid shirk (polytheism) with the Creator and injustice to the creation.
Such a person is not harmed by the jinn — either because they recognize he is upon truth, or they are unable to confront him.
