Is indecency (بے حیائی) instigated by Satan?
Allah Almighty says:
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تَتَّبِعُوا خُطُوَاتِ الشَّيْطَانِ ۚ وَمَن يَتَّبِعْ خُطُوَاتِ الشَّيْطَانِ فَإِنَّهُ يَأْمُرُ بِالْفَحْشَاءِ وَالْمُنكَرِ ۚ وَلَوْلَا فَضْلُ اللَّـهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَتُهُ مَا زَكَىٰ مِنكُم مِّنْ أَحَدٍ أَبَدًا وَلَـٰكِنَّ اللَّـهَ يُزَكِّي مَن يَشَاءُ ۗ وَاللَّـهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ [النور: 21]
Translation:
O you who have believed! Do not follow the footsteps of Satan. And whoever follows the footsteps of Satan — indeed, he commands immorality and wrongdoing. And were it not for the favor of Allah upon you and His mercy, not one of you would ever have been purified. But Allah purifies whom He wills, and Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.
[An-Nūr: 21]
In this verse, Allah Almighty, using eloquent, concise, and clear wording, has prohibited, warned against, and instilled disgust for following the paths and commands of Satan.
❖ Therefore, O Muslim! Avoid every act that is from Satan.
✖ Even making a vow (نذر) to carry out a sinful act is a satanic deed, and hence it must also be avoided.
✔ Following Satan’s footsteps leads a person to sinful and disgraceful actions.
✔ A believer must remain vigilant and steer clear of every satanic influence to preserve their spiritual purity.
