❖ Question:
Can a woman perform iʿtikāf (spiritual retreat) in her home?
❖ Answer:
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd!
During the blessed era of the Prophet ﷺ, women also performed iʿtikāf, but they did so in the mosque, not in their homes.
◈ As stated in Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī:
(Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, Kitāb al-Iʿtikāf, Bāb Iʿtikāf an-Nisāʾ & Bāb al-Iʿtikāf fī al-ʿAshr al-Awākhir)
This makes it clear that the prescribed place for iʿtikāf is the mosque, whether for men or for women.
Hādhā mā ʿindī, wallāhu aʿlam biṣ-ṣawāb.
