Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah, Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah."
Then he repeated:
"Ashhadu an la ilaha illa Allah, Ashhadu an la ilaha illa Allah (twice),
Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah, Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah (twice),"

Key Lessons from the Hadith
➊ Tarji' Adhan Is Permissible and the Stronger Opinion
- Repeating the Shahadah part of the Adhan is a valid Sunnah, as taught to Abu Mahdhurah (رضي الله عنه).
- The Hadith does not mention that the Prophet (ﷺ) instructed Abu Mahdhurah to do so just for practice—he continued giving Adhan this way in Makkah even after the Prophet’s time.
➋ The Prophet (ﷺ) Taught the Correct Adhan Method
- The Prophet (ﷺ) directly taught Abu Mahdhurah the Adhan, which proves that a scholar or leader can teach others how to give Adhan.
➌ Tarji' Adhan Contains 19 Words, and Tarji' Iqamah Contains 17 Words
- The total words of Tarji' Adhan are 19, according to the Hadith of Abu Mahdhurah.
- Iqamah, with Tarji', has 17 words, including:
- Two repetitions of "Ashhadu an la ilaha illa Allah" and "Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah."
- "Qad Qamatis-Salah" is also repeated.
➍ Tarji' Adhan Continued After the Prophet’s Time
- Even after the Prophet’s (ﷺ) passing, Makkah continued using Tarji' Adhan, and no opposition was recorded.
- If Tarji' were only for learning purposes, it would not have remained a continuous practice in Makkah.
Conclusion: Is Tarji' Adhan Allowed?
Yes, Tarji' Adhan is permissible and a stronger opinion, as established in authentic Hadith. It involves repeating the Shahadah softly first and then saying it louder.
It remained a practice in Makkah even after the Prophet’s time.
