Is Buying and Selling the Qur’an Permissible in Islam?

❀ Ruling on Buying and Selling the Noble Qur’an ❀

✿ Trade of the Mus'haf (The Noble Qur’an)

There is no harm in the trade of the Noble Qur’an, as people have a continuous or occasional need for it. The elaboration of this general ruling is as follows: for instance, a person needs a Mus'haf but does not have one; however, he has money through which he can purchase it, and without buying, he cannot acquire it. Therefore, its buying and selling is permissible, and there is no objection in doing so, because a need arises for it.

As for the opinion of the scholar who prohibited it, his statement can be understood in the sense that if such trade leads to disrespect or belittling of the Qur’an, then due to that, it would be prohibited.
