❖ Question
Is the phrase “Kufr Dūn Kufr” a Hadith of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?
❖ Answer
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, Ammā Baʿd!
These words are not a Hadith of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ; rather, they are the statement of ʿAṭāʾ (رحمه الله تعالى).
Imām al-Bukhārī (رحمه الله تعالى) mentioned this phrase in the heading of a chapter in Kitāb al-Īmān and substantiated its meaning with authentic marfūʿ aḥādīth.
A Hadith of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“I was shown the Hellfire, and the majority of its inhabitants were women who commit kufr.”
It was asked: “Do they disbelieve in Allah?”
He ﷺ replied:
“They are ungrateful to their husbands and ungrateful for favors. Even if you show kindness to one of them throughout her lifetime, and then she sees something displeasing from you, she will immediately say: ‘I have never seen any good from you.’”
