The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) used to say:
"Indeed, a man’s prolonging of his prayer and shortening of his sermon is a sign of his understanding of religion. So, lengthen the prayer and shorten the sermon. And indeed, some forms of speech are magical."
[Sahih al-Jami‘ al-Saghir, Hadith No. 2100 | Sahih Muslim 594, 2/869 | Musnad Ahmad 4/263 | Sunan al-Darimi 1556]
It has also been reported that a man once spoke eloquently in the presence of Umar ibn Abdul Aziz (رحمه الله). In response, Umar said:
"By Allah, this is lawful magic."
Is Eloquence in Speech Considered a Form of Magic?
