Written by: Tanveer al-Haq Hazrawi

Imam Malik and Raf‘ al-Yadayn (Raising the Hands in Salah)

Imam ‘Abdullah ibn Wahb al-Misri (رحمه الله) said:

“I saw (Imam) Malik ibn Anas raising his hands at the beginning of the prayer, before bowing (ruku‘), and after rising from ruku‘.”

The narrator, Abu ‘Abdullah Muhammad ibn Jabir ibn Hammad al-Marwazi al-Faqih (رحمه الله), said:

“I mentioned this to Muhammad ibn ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abd al-Hakam, and he said:
‘This was the final statement and action of (Imam) Malik, and upon this he passed away. This is the Sunnah. I act upon it, and so does Harmalah ibn Yahya.’
