If someone is seen standing at a grave, pleading and seeking help from the occupant of the grave, should he be stopped?
Yes. The principle of amr bil-maʿrūf wa-nahy ʿan al-munkar (enjoining good and forbidding evil) requires that a person who stands at a grave and seeks assistance and help from the deceased should be stopped to the best of one’s ability. Such acts are among the prohibited evils (munkarāt).
❀ Sayyidunā Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī رضي الله عنه narrates that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Whoever among you sees an evil, let him change it with his hand; if he cannot, then with his tongue; and if he cannot, then with his heart—and that is the weakest form of faith.”
(Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim: 49)
