I Am Afflicted with Envy, and My Duʿā Is Not Accepted

Authored by: Dr. Rida Abdullah Pasha ḥafiẓahullāh

❖ Question:

I am afflicted with envy (ḥasad) and continue to supplicate to Allah, but my duʿā is not being accepted — why?

❖ Answer:

The Noble Prophet ﷺ said:

«يستجاب لأحدكم ما لم يعجل»
"The duʿā of any one of you is accepted, so long as he does not become impatient."

[Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, Ḥadīth no. 5981; Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, Ḥadīth no. 2735; Sunan al-Tirmidhī, Ḥadīth no. 4434]

To have your duʿā accepted, it is essential to:

Be content with Allah's decree
Exercise patience
Persist in making duʿā without haste

Hastiness in duʿā is when one says:
“I have made much duʿā, but it hasn’t been accepted.”

Also, stay away from sins, such as usury (ribā) and other forbidden acts.
If you have wronged anyone, seek their forgiveness.
If you have usurped someone's rights, return what is due to them.
