Human Error and Divine Justice: The Balance of Reward and Punishment

Written by: Mazamil Sheikh

❖ The Nature of Punishment

Punishment corresponds to the severity and nature of one’s wrongdoing.
The graver the error, the harsher the consequence.

The most severe error in divine law is to know the truth clearly and yet deny it until death.
The consequence of such a decision is stated clearly: eternal punishment in Hell.

❖ Divine Reward: A Parallel Perspective

Just as divine punishment is based on justice, so is paradise and its eternal reward.
If someone argues that God is unjust for punishing a small sin harshly,
then they must also acknowledge that God rewards even a small good deed generously.

☛ If you are quick to claim injustice for severe punishment of a minor fault,
☛ Why not then seek the immense reward promised for even the smallest righteous act?

This forms a counter-question, emphasizing the consistency of divine justice.

❖ Predetermined Compensation and Fairness

Every deed—good or bad—has a predetermined reward or consequence.

◉ For instance, a government officer may earn Rs. 3000 a day,
while a daily laborer might barely earn Rs. 100 for similar work.
If these rates were agreed upon beforehand, then it cannot be called unfair.

Similarly, God has clearly stated:

✔ Whoever believes shall be rewarded with eternal paradise
✘ Whoever rejects faith will face eternal punishment

This system is pre-declared and unchanging.
To demand alteration would itself be a form of injustice.

❖ The Illusion of Injustice

Claiming, "Why does one get more and the other less?",
is not valid when the terms were clear and accepted beforehand.

On the Day of Judgment, no soul will be able to accuse God of injustice,
because the system of reward and punishment was laid out with our pre-conscious agreement,
and our innate conscience was made to understand it.

When the final reckoning arrives, all this will be brought forth as evidence,
proving that these divine rules were set before our birth and implicitly accepted.
