Authored by: Dr. Raza Abdullah Pasha (Hafizahullah)
Does the devil tie three knots on the back of a sleeping person’s head, to the extent that he cannot even perform prayer?
Yes, it is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه that the Noble Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
يعقد الشيطان على قافية رأس أحدكم إذا نام ثلاث عقد، يضرب كل عقدة: عليك ليل طويل فارقد، فإن استيقظ فذكر الله إنحلت عقدة، فإن توضا، انحلت عقدة، فإن صلى انحلت عقدة فأصبح نشيطا طيب النفس وإلا أصبح خبيث النفس كسلان
"When any of you sleeps, Satan ties three knots at the back of his head, striking each knot and saying: 'You have a long night, so sleep.' If he wakes up and remembers Allah, one knot is undone; if he performs ablution, the second is undone; and if he performs prayer, the third is undone. Thus, he wakes up energetic and in good spirits. Otherwise, he gets up sluggish and in a bad state of mind."
[Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith No. 1142]
① Shayṭān attempts to prevent a person from waking up for worship by tying three spiritual knots on the back of his head.
② Each knot is a whisper: “You have a long night ahead, so keep sleeping.”
③ These knots are undone in stages:

✿ Key Points to Note:
① Shayṭān attempts to prevent a person from waking up for worship by tying three spiritual knots on the back of his head.
② Each knot is a whisper: “You have a long night ahead, so keep sleeping.”
③ These knots are undone in stages:
- First: By remembering Allah upon waking.
- Second: By performing Wudu (ablution).
- Third: By offering Salah (prayer).
④ When all three actions are fulfilled, the person awakens energetic and with a good spirit.
⑤ If he neglects these steps, he awakens in a lazy and disturbed state.
