❖ Question:

How much Mahr did the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ give to his wives?

✿ Answer:

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ fixed five hundred dirhams as the Mahr for his wives.
📚 [Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim: 1426]

Freedom of a Slave Woman as Mahr:

It is also proven that the Prophet ﷺ gave freedom from slavery as Mahr.

“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ emancipated Ṣafiyyah, and made her emancipation her Mahr.”
📚 [Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī: 5086, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim: 1365]

✅ Conclusion:

  • The standard Mahr the Prophet ﷺ gave was 500 dirhams.
  • In specific cases, such as with Ṣafiyyah رضي الله عنها, her freedom was considered her Mahr.
  • This demonstrates flexibility in what can constitute Mahr in Islam.
