The Act of the People of Lut (Homosexuality) – Strictly Forbidden in Shari‘ah
Mention in the Qur’an and Their Destruction
Allah ﷻ says:
Meaning: “And mention Lut, when he said to his people: Indeed, you commit such immorality as no one among mankind has ever preceded you in.”
The People of Lut were the first to commit this vile act. Their end is described in the Qur’an:
فَلَمَّا جَاءَ أَمْرُنَا جَعَلْنَا عَالِيَهَا سَافِلَهَا وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهَا حِجَارَةً مِّن سِجِّيلٍ مَّنضُودٍ ﴿٨٢﴾ (ھود)
Meaning: “Then when Our command came, We made the highest part of the city its lowest, and We rained upon them stones of layered baked clay.”
Severe Warnings in Hadith
- Ibn Abbas (RA): The Prophet ﷺ said:
“When you find anyone doing the act of the people of Lut, kill the one who does it and the one to whom it is done.”
(Abu Dawud 4462, Tirmidhi 1456) - Jabir (RA): The Prophet ﷺ said:
“The thing I fear most for my Ummah is the act of the people of Lut.”
(Tirmidhi 1482, Ibn Majah 2563) - The Prophet ﷺ said repeatedly:
“Allah has cursed the one who does the act of the people of Lut. Allah has cursed the one who does the act of the people of Lut. Allah has cursed the one who does the act of the people of Lut.”
(Musnad Ahmad 1/317, Sahih al-Jami‘ 5891) - Ibn Abbas (RA):
“Allah will not look with mercy at the one who commits sodomy with a man or a woman in their anus.”
(Tirmidhi 1165) - Abu Hurairah (RA):
“Cursed is the one who has intercourse with his wife in her anus.”
(Abu Dawud 2162) - Abu Hurairah (RA):
“Whoever goes to a fortune teller and believes in what he says, or has intercourse with his wife during menstruation or in her anus, he has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad ﷺ.”
(Abu Dawud 3904)
Dayyuth – The Sign of Shamelessness
A Dayyuth is a man who sees indecency in his family or facilitates its causes, yet remains silent or pleased.
- Ibn Umar (RA): The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Three types of people Allah will not look at on the Day of Resurrection:
① The one who disobeys his parents
② A woman who imitates men
③ The Dayyuth (cuckold)
And three will not enter Paradise:
① The one who disobeys his parents
② The habitual drunkard
③ The one who reminds others of favors he has done for them.”
(Nasa’i 2563)
In today’s age, Dayyuthiyyah has become common where men tolerate their wives or daughters engaging in private conversations or shameless behavior with strangers, often influenced by immoral media content.
Lowering the Garment below the Ankles
This is prohibited, whether done out of pride or without pride.
- Abu Hurairah (RA): The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Whatever part of the garment is below the ankles is in the Fire.”
(Bukhari 5787) - Abu Sa‘id al-Khudri (RA): The Prophet ﷺ said:
“The garment of a believer should reach mid-calf, and there is no harm if it reaches between mid-calf and the ankles. But what is below the ankles is in the Fire. And whoever drags his garment out of pride, Allah will not look at him on the Day of Judgment.”
(Abu Dawud 4093)
This Hadith differentiates two sins:
✔ Without pride – punishment of Hellfire
✔ With pride – Allah’s wrath and rejection
As for women, excessively dragging their dresses at weddings or elsewhere is impermissible due to extravagance and imitation of non-Muslims.
Imitating the Opposite Gender
Imitating the opposite sex in clothing, mannerisms, or speech is forbidden and incurs Allah’s curse.
- Ibn Abbas (RA):
“Allah cursed the women who imitate men and the men who imitate women.”
(Bukhari 5885) - Abu Hurairah (RA):
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ cursed the woman who dresses like men and the man who dresses like women.”
(Abu Dawud 4098)
Since acts that incur Allah’s curse are among the major sins, this is a grave matter.
Artificial Beauty and Altering Allah’s Creation
Practices that alter natural features for the sake of beauty are strictly forbidden.
- Ibn Mas‘ud (RA): The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Allah has cursed the women who practice tattooing and those who get themselves tattooed, those who remove their facial hair and those who have it removed, those who create gaps between their teeth for beauty, and those who change the creation of Allah.”
(Bukhari 5931, Muslim 2125) - Abu Hurairah (RA):
“Allah has cursed the one who joins false hair and the one who has it joined, and the one who tattoos and the one who gets it done.”
(Bukhari 5933)
