Compiled by: Dr. Raza Abdullah Pasha (Hafizahullah)

Question:

Is there a recommended supplication for healing all types of ailments?

Answer:

Narration from Uthman bin Abi Al-Aas Al-Thaqafi (RA):
He reported that he complained to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about a persistent pain in his body, which he had been experiencing since embracing Islam. The Prophet ﷺ advised him:

«ضع يدك على الذى تألم من جسدك، فقل: باسم الله ثلاثا، وقل سبع مرات: أعود بالله وقدرته من شر ما أجد وأحاذر»

"Place your hand on the part of your body where you feel pain, say 'Bismillah' (In the name of Allah) three times, then recite seven times: 'A‘udhu billahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa uhadhir' (I seek refuge in Allah and His power from the evil of what I find and fear)."
[Sahih Muslim, Hadith No. 2202, Book of Peace, Chapter on Placing One’s Hand on the Painful Area During Supplication]

Explanation:

This supplication is a comprehensive method of seeking healing from any form of pain or illness. The method involves:
  1. Placing your hand on the painful area to establish a physical connection.
  2. Saying 'Bismillah' three times to invoke the name of Allah for His blessings and mercy.
  3. Reciting the prescribed supplication seven times to seek protection from the harm of the illness and fear associated with it.
This method is effective for physical and spiritual ailments, emphasizing the role of faith in healing.
