Abū al-Dunyā narrates that he heard Hazrat Ali (رضي الله عنه) saying:
When the verse was revealed
«وَتَعِيَهَا أُذُنٌ وَاعِيَةٌ»
“…and that the hearing ear might hear it…”,
the Prophet ﷺ said: “O Ali (رضي الله عنه)! I asked Allah that He make your ear such.”
[Mīzān al-Iʿtidāl: 7/364 | al-Mughnī: 2/783 | Mentioned by al-Muttaqī al-Hindī in al-Kanz 36562]
The narrator of this report is Abū al-Dunyā al-Ashajj, who falsely claimed—after the year 300 AH—that he was a student of Hazrat Ali (رضي الله عنه). This is akin to Ratan Hindī, who claimed to be a companion (ṣaḥābī) six hundred years after the Prophet ﷺ. All such individuals were deceivers of their respective times.
✖ All of Abū al-Dunyā’s narrations relate only to Hazrat Ali (رضي الله عنه), and he had no knowledge or transmission regarding any other companion or narrator.
