Hajj After ʿUmrah and Iḥrām from Abyār ʿAlī: Does It Count as Tamattuʿ?

ʿUmrah During the Months of Hajj Followed by Iḥrām from Abyār ʿAlī: Is It Tamattuʿ?
Extracted from: Fatāwā Arkān-e-Islām

❖ Question:

If someone performs ʿUmrah during the months of Hajj, then travels to Madinah, and from there assumes Iḥrām for Hajj at Abyār ʿAlī, will this be considered Hajj al-Tamattuʿ?

❖ Answer:

Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd...

If a person performs ʿUmrah during the months of Hajj and intends to perform Hajj in the same year, then this will be counted as Hajj al-Tamattuʿ, even if he travels between the two rites — such as to Madinah.

✔ Key Clarifications:

Traveling between ʿUmrah and Hajj does not nullify the Tamattuʿ status,
Provided that the person does not return to his home city in between.

❖ What if One Returns to His Hometown?

If the person returns to his own city after completing ʿUmrah and then sets out again for Hajj from there, then:

◈ The Tamattuʿ is considered void,
◈ Because separate journeys have been undertaken for ʿUmrah and Hajj.

❖ Ruling in the Given Scenario:

If a person:

➤ Performs ʿUmrah during the months of Hajj,
➤ Then travels to Madinah,
➤ And later assumes Iḥrām from Abyār ʿAlī for Hajj,

Then:

His Hajj will still be counted as Tamattuʿ,
✔ And he will be required to offer a sacrificial animal (hady).

This ruling is based on the general verse of the Qur’an:

﴿فَمَن تَمَتَّعَ بِالعُمرَةِ إِلَى الحَجِّ فَمَا استَيسَرَ مِنَ الهَدىِ﴾
Sūrah al-Baqarah, Āyah 196

“So whoever performs ʿUmrah [during the Hajj months] and then [completes it] with Hajj must offer what can be easily afforded of sacrificial animals.”

ھذا ما عندي، والله أعلم بالصواب
