Hadith Rejection and the Rise of Atheism: Causes and Impact

❀ Analysis of Hadith Rejection and the Rising Influence of Atheism ❀
Written by: Ṭalḥah al-Saif

✿ Facebook Criticism: Genuine Scholarship or Rhetorical Grandstanding?

A public figure, Qārī Dār, has been propagating against Hadith on Facebook for some time now.
Had his objections been based on:

  • The principles of Hadith science,
  • A methodology grounded in the understanding of the Salaf,
  • Or even constructive academic critique,

…then engaging with his views might have been fruitful.

But instead, his approach is filled with emotional language and superficial rhetoric.
Interestingly, his online criticism remains confined to social media—his mosque sermons and public speeches still rely on weak narrations and folklore from traditional sources.

✿ The Contradiction of Private Critique and Public Silence

Despite claiming to stand against the tide of atheism (ilḥād), Qārī Dār restricts his so-called truthful speech to Facebook posts only.

  • He does not engage in public teaching about his “new truth.”
  • He does not communicate these views in Arabic or scholarly circles.
  • Nor does he attempt to influence his immediate religious community with his new vision.

➡ This demonstrates a lack of academic credibility and practical consistency.

✿ Linking Hadith to Atheism: A Faulty Argument

The Claim:

Qārī Dār asserts that some Hadiths fuel atheism, as atheists use them to attack Islam, and therefore, such Hadiths must be rejected.

✿ The Real Roots of Atheism: God and Metaphysics

The core issues raised by atheists are not Hadith, but rather:

  • The existence of God
  • The concept of divine punishment (hellfire)
  • The Day of Judgment and resurrection
  • The idea of creation and the unseen

Common Atheist Objections:

  • Why does Allah punish eternally in hell?
  • Why does Surah al-Anfāl allow execution of captives?
  • Why does the Qur’an say the sun sets in muddy waters?
  • Why was the boy killed by Khidr in Surah al-Kahf?

If rejecting Hadith is the solution to atheism, will you also reject the Qur’an to appease atheists?

✿ The Outcome of Hadith Rejection: Atheism in Disguise

Observations indicate that many modern-day atheists were initially influenced by Hadith rejection movements.

✔ They began by denying some narrations,
❌ Then questioned Prophetic authority,
❌ Ultimately ended up rejecting Islam altogether.

✿ Foundation of Islam: Qur’an and Sunnah Together

Islam’s complete legal and moral framework is only understood through both Qur’an and Sunnah.

The Qur’an provides the commands
The Sunnah explains and implements them practically

Without Hadith, the Qur’an becomes vulnerable to subjective interpretation,
And the practical structure of Islam collapses, becoming a shapeless ideology, easily molded to suit modernist ideologies.

✿ Orientalism and Modern Hadith Deniers

Most modern objections against Hadith are not original but stem from Orientalist sources, such as:

  • Claims about late compilation of Hadith
  • Doubts about the trustworthiness of narrators (rijāl)
  • Attacks on transmission chains and early Hadith preservation

➡ These Western critiques, originally meant to discredit Islam, have been internalized by some Muslim thinkers with little or no grounding in Hadith sciences.

✿ The Real Danger: Replacing Sunnah with Secularism

Modern Hadith rejecters aim to present a "modernized Islam" stripped of traditional Sunnah, aligning with secular ideologies.
But in doing so:

  • They remove Islam’s authority and divine framework
  • They replace prophetic guidance with personal opinions
  • And they pave the way for full-scale secularism or atheism

✿ Conclusion

Whether old or new, Hadith rejection serves a common purpose: to undermine the foundation of Islam.
Without Hadith, Islam loses its practical application, and the Qur’an becomes exposed to distortion.
Hadith denial does not stop atheism, rather, it fuels it.

Those who seek to please atheists by denying Hadith, will eventually find themselves denying the Qur’an too, for atheists object to both.
