❖ Question
Is there a ḥadīth about Prophet Mūsā عليه السلام striking the Angel of Death (Malak al-Mawt)?
❖ Answer
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, wa al-ṣalātu wa al-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd:
✔ Yes, this ḥadīth is authentic. It is found in both Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī and Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, as well as other books of ḥadīth.
– The incident occurred when the Angel of Death came to Prophet Mūsā عليه السلام in human form, without prior notice.
– This narration is also among the aḥādīth which Abū Hurayrah رضي الله عنه dictated to Hammām ibn Munabbih. It appears in his compilation under ḥadīth no. 59.
