Greater Reward in Congregational Prayer: Large vs. Small Mosque

Extracted from: Fatāwā ʿUlamāʾ-e-Ḥadīth, Kitāb al-Ṣalāh, Vol. 1
Organized for clarity with structured headings.

❖ Question

Is the reward for offering congregational prayer greater in a large mosque, or a small mosque, or is the reward equal in both?

❖ Answer

The greater reward in congregational prayer is not dependent on the size of the mosque—whether it is large or small—but rather on the number of worshippers in the congregation.

The more individuals that participate in the prayer, the greater the reward will be.

❖ Prophetic Saying

Ubayy ibn Kaʿb (RA) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“The prayer of two men is better than the prayer of one, and the prayer of three is better than that of two. The more people there are, the more beloved that prayer is to Allah.”
(Narrated by Abū Dāwūd, al-Nasāʾī, and authenticated by Ibn Ḥibbān)

❖ Summary

◄ The reward of prayer is not based on the size of the mosque.
◄ Rather, it depends on the number of participants in the congregation.
The larger the congregation, the more beloved the prayer is to Allah.
