Touching or Kissing a Non-Maḥram: A Grave Sin and Its Consequences
Written by: Qārī Usāmah bin ʿAbd al-Salām
1. Adultery of the Eyes and Hands
The Prophet ﷺ said:
(Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim)
Translation:
- The eyes commit adultery by looking,
- The hands commit adultery by touching,
- The feet commit adultery by walking towards it,
- The tongue commits adultery by kissing,
- The heart desires and wishes,
- And the private parts confirm or deny all of this.
2. Allah’s Wrath and Punishment
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
(al-Ṭabarānī; al-Silsilah al-Ṣaḥīḥah, ḥadīth 5045)
Translation:
"For one of you to be pierced in the head with an iron needle is better than to touch a woman who is not permissible for him."
3. Loss of Honor: A Path to Hell
This sin reflects not only physical transgression but also spiritual corruption and a lack of protective honor (ghayrah).
4. Punishment on the Day of Judgment
If unlawful touching, kissing, or seclusion is labeled “love,” then remember the Qurʾān warns:
(al-Furqān: 68)
Translation:
"Those who do not call upon any deity besides Allah, nor kill the soul forbidden by Allah except in truth, nor commit adultery—and whoever does so shall face a severe penalty."
What Should One Do?
- Feel deep regret in the heart.
- Abandon the sin immediately.
- Resolve never to return to it.
- Conceal the sin; do not boast about it.
- If genuine feelings exist, pursue them through marriage.
- In nikāḥ lies Allah’s pleasure, blessings, and protection.
- Realize this sin is not enjoyment but fire.
- Do not anger Allah by dishonoring others.
Touching, kissing, or deriving pleasure from a non-maḥram may give temporary pleasure but can lead to everlasting Hellfire.
