Dealing with People in a Kind Manner

❀ Hadith Narrated by Aisha (رضی اللہ عنہا):
Aisha (رضی اللہ عنہا) reported that a man sought permission to enter the house of the Prophet (ﷺ). The Prophet (ﷺ) said:

"Allow him to come in, but he is a very bad member of his tribe."
When the man entered, the Prophet (ﷺ) spoke to him gently. Aisha (رضی اللہ عنہا) asked:
"O Messenger of Allah! You said what you said about him, but then you spoke to him so gently?"
The Prophet (ﷺ) replied:
"O Aisha! The worst person in the sight of Allah is the one whom people avoid or abandon because of his bad manners."
[Agreed Upon: Sahih al-Bukhari 6131, Sahih Muslim 2591]

❀ Hadith Narrated by Al-Miswar bin Makhrama (رضی اللہ عنہما):

Al-Miswar bin Makhrama (رضی اللہ عنہما) reported: A number of cloaks were presented to the Prophet (ﷺ). My father, Makhrama (رضی اللہ عنہ), said to me:

"Take me to the Prophet (ﷺ). Perhaps he will give us something from these."
My father stood at the door and spoke. The Prophet (ﷺ) recognized his voice and came out carrying a cloak. The Prophet (ﷺ) showed its features and said:
"I kept this for you. I kept this for you."
[Agreed Upon: Sahih al-Bukhari 2657, Sahih Muslim 1058:130]

Explanation of the Hadiths:

  1. Maintaining Politeness Despite Disapproval:
The first narration emphasizes the importance of dealing politely with people, even if one disapproves of their behavior or character. This approach avoids unnecessary confrontation and highlights the wisdom of addressing others with respect and kindness.
  2. Recognizing and Honoring Requests:
The second narration demonstrates the Prophet’s (ﷺ) practice of recognizing people’s needs and honoring them in a kind and thoughtful manner, strengthening bonds and fostering goodwill.

Key Lessons:

① Always interact with others in a respectful and gentle manner, regardless of personal opinions about their character.
② Avoid harshness that might drive people away or cause them to feel alienated.
③ The Prophet’s (ﷺ) exemplary conduct reminds us to address people's needs and make them feel valued.
④ Maintaining good character and politeness is a hallmark of Islamic ethics.
