An Account from the Battle of Badr

The Incident
During the Battle of Badr, the noble Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was aligning the ranks of his army. Holding a stick or an arrow, he would straighten the rows, ensuring every soldier stood correctly. As he passed by Sawad ibn Ghaziyyah al-Ansari, a confederate of Banu ‘Adiyy ibn Najjar, he found him slightly ahead of the line.
The Prophet ﷺ lightly poked him in the stomach with the arrow and said:
“O Sawad! Stand in line.”
Sawad (RA) responded:
“O Messenger of Allah! You have caused me pain, while you were sent with truth and justice. I demand retribution (qisas)!”
Upon hearing this, the Prophet ﷺ uncovered his blessed stomach and handed the arrow to Sawad (RA), saying:
“Take your retribution.”
Instead of exacting revenge, Sawad (RA) threw his arms around the Prophet ﷺ and kissed his blessed stomach.
The Prophet ﷺ smiled and asked:
“What made you do this, O Sawad?”
He replied:
“O Messenger of Allah! You see what situation we are in. The battle has begun, and I may not survive. I wanted the last moment of my life to involve touching your blessed skin.”
Upon hearing this, the Prophet ﷺ supplicated for Sawad (RA), invoking blessings and goodness for him.

This touching story, while popular in Seerah literature, is classified as weak (ḍaʿīf) by the scholars of Hadith due to the presence of unknown narrators (majhūl) in the chain, particularly the elders from the tribe of Ḥibbān mentioned by Ibn Ishaq.
