Getting an injection and using toothpaste while fasting :.
Question :.
I received an intravenous injection while fasting in Ramadan, will my fast for that day be valid or is it obligatory for me to make up for it?
Fatwa :.
If this injection provides nutrition or strength to the body, then it breaks the fast, whether it is administered in the vein or any other part of the body.
Question :.
Is it permissible for me to use toothpaste and a brush after I have started my fast, and if it is permissible, does the blood that comes out while using the brush break the fast?
Fatwa :.
There is no harm in using water, miswak, or a toothbrush after fasting, although some scholars consider the use of miswak for the fasting person after noon to be disliked because it eliminates the altered smell of the fasting person's mouth, which is very beloved to Allah. However, the correct view is that the use of miswak is permissible at all times of the day, and it does not eliminate the altered smell of the fasting person's mouth; rather, it only cleans the teeth and mouth from odor, dirt, and leftover food particles. As for the use of toothpaste, its dislike is evident because it has a specific smell and taste that sometimes mixes with saliva, and it cannot be avoided from swallowing. Therefore, for someone for whom its use is necessary, they should use it after eating suhoor and before dawn. If they can use it during the day with the caution of avoiding swallowing saliva, then there is no harm in it due to necessity. If a small amount of blood comes from the teeth while using a toothbrush or while performing ablution, it does not break the fast.
