Generational naming - anticipating the Mahdi

Is it common practice among Sunni families to name their generations according to the prophesied genealogy of the Mahdi? For example, a son named Ahmad (or Muhammad), whose father's name is Hasan (or Hussein); whose grandfather's name is Ali; and whose great-grandfather's name is Muhammad?

No, it is not.

Among Sunni Muslims, there is no common practice, Sunnah, or scholarly basis for naming generations to match the prophesied genealogy of al-Mahdi. Islam does not instruct Muslims to engineer names or lineages in anticipation of end-times figures.

Such a practice is more commonly associated with some Shi‘ah families or sectarian beliefs, where exaggerated focus is placed on lineage, imamate, and eschatological figures. This methodology is not from Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jama‘ah, nor from the Salaf.
