Below are the authentic supplications of the Janazah (funeral) prayer that were recited by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his noble Companions (رضي الله عنهم). These are to be recited after the respective Takbeers during the funeral prayer.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to make sincere supplications for the deceased after the third Takbeer.
Kitab al-Umm by Imam Shafi‘i (Hadith 589), Sunan al-Kubra by Bayhaqi (Hadith 7059) – Ḥasan
❷ Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) reported:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "When you perform the funeral prayer, make sincere du‘a for the deceased."
Sunan Abi Dawud (Hadith 3199), Sahih Ibn Hibban (Hadith 755)
During a funeral prayer, the Prophet ﷺ was heard saying:
اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّ (Insert deceased's name) فِي ذِمَّتِكَ...
Translation:
O Allah! So-and-so is under Your protection and within the boundary of Your refuge. Save him from the trial of the grave and the torment of the Fire. Indeed, You are the One to fulfill covenants and the Truthful. O Allah! Forgive him and have mercy on him. Surely, You are the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful.
Sunan Abi Dawud (3202), Sunan Ibn Majah (1499), Al-Awsat Ibn al-Mundhir (3173) – Ḥasan
❷ Du‘a by ‘Awf bin Malik (رضي الله عنه):
اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَهُ وَارْحَمْهُ...
Translation:
O Allah! Forgive him, have mercy on him, grant him well-being and pardon him. Honor his resting place and expand his grave. Wash him with water, snow, and hail. Cleanse him from sins as a white garment is cleaned from dirt. Replace his home with a better one, his family with better ones, and his spouse with a better one. Admit him to Paradise and protect him from the punishment of the grave and the Fire.

❸ Du‘a by Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه):
اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِحَيِّنَا وَمَيِّتِنَا...
Translation:
O Allah! Forgive our living and our dead, our present and our absent, our young and our old, our men and our women. O Allah! Whoever among us You give life, let him live upon Islam, and whoever You cause to die, let him die upon faith. O Allah! Do not deprive us of his reward and do not lead us astray after him.
Musnad Ahmad (8795), Sunan Ibn Majah (1498)
❹ Du‘a reported by Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه):
اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبُّهَا وَأَنْتَ خَلَقْتَهَا...
Translation:
O Allah! You are his Lord, You created him, You guided him to Islam, and You took his soul. You are more aware of his hidden and open deeds. We have come to intercede for him, so forgive him.
Musnad Ahmad (8545), Sunan al-Kubra al-Bayhaqi (7057), Amal al-Yawm wa al-Laylah (1078)
اَللّٰهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِاَحْیَا ئِنَا...
Translation:
O Allah! Forgive our living and our dead, believing men and women. Rectify their mutual affairs, unite their hearts, and make them like the hearts of their righteous predecessors. Forgive (insert deceased’s name), unite him with Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, elevate his ranks among the guided, succeed him among the rest, and place his record in ‘Illiyyin. O Lord of the worlds, forgive us and him. Do not deprive us of his reward and do not misguide us after him.
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah (11480), (30405) – Ḥasan
❻ Du‘a of Yazid bin ‘Abdullah bin Rukanah (رضي الله عنه):
اَللّٰھُمَّ عَبْدُکَ وَابْنُ...
Translation:
O Allah! He is Your servant and the son of Your maidservant. He is in need of Your mercy while You are not in need of punishing him. If he was righteous, increase his good deeds. If he was sinful, pardon him.
Mustadrak al-Hakim (1328)
❼ Mawquf narration from Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه):
اَللّٰھُمَّ اِنَّہٗ عَبْدُکَ...
Translation:
O Allah! He is Your servant, the son of Your servant and maidservant. He used to testify that there is no deity but You and that Muhammad is Your servant and messenger. If he was righteous, increase his good deeds. If he was sinful, pardon his sins. O Allah! Do not deprive us of his reward and do not test us after him.
Muwatta’ Imam Malik (536)
❽ Du‘a by ‘Abdullah bin ‘Abbas (رضي الله عنه) during Janazah at Abwa’:
اَللّهُمَّ عَبْدُکَ وَاْبنُ عَبْدِکَ...
Translation:
O Allah! He is Your servant, the son of Your servant and maidservant. He testifies that You are One and have no partner and that Muhammad is Your messenger. He is in need of Your mercy. Forgive him, and do not deprive us of his reward or lead us astray after him.

After the prayer, Ibn ‘Abbas (رضي الله عنه) stated: “I recited aloud so that you may know this is Sunnah.”

✦ General Instructions from the Prophet ﷺ Regarding Funeral Du‘a
❶ Abu Umamah bin Sahl (رضي الله عنه) reported:The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to make sincere supplications for the deceased after the third Takbeer.

❷ Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) reported:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "When you perform the funeral prayer, make sincere du‘a for the deceased."

✦ Specific Sunnah Supplications from the Prophet ﷺ
❶ Du‘a by Wathilah bin Asqa‘ (رضي الله عنه):During a funeral prayer, the Prophet ﷺ was heard saying:
اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّ (Insert deceased's name) فِي ذِمَّتِكَ...
Translation:

Translation:
