Funeral Prayer Ruling for a Highway Robber (Muḥārib) in Islam

❖ The Ruling on Funeral Prayer for the Highway Robber (Muḥārib)

Written by: Imran Ayoob Lahori

◈ Funeral Prayer for the Muḥārib

  • If the muḥārib is a Muslim, then his funeral prayer (ṣalāt al-janāzah) will be offered.
  • If the muḥārib is a disbeliever, then his funeral prayer will not be offered.

This is because Allah ﷻ forbade seeking forgiveness and performing funeral prayer for the disbelievers and polytheists.

◈ Qur’ānic Evidence

"And never pray over any of them who dies, nor stand at his grave. Indeed, they disbelieved in Allah and His Messenger and died while defiantly disobedient."

"It is not for the Prophet and those who believe to seek forgiveness for the polytheists, even if they are near relatives."
