Allah says:
وَخَلَقَ الْجَانَّ مِن مَّارِجٍ مِّن نَّارٍ
"And He created the jinn from a smokeless flame of fire."
[Ar-Rahman: 15]
In this noble verse, the word "Maarij" is used, which refers to the part of the fire that rises upward, commonly known as a flame.
Lady Aisha (رضي الله عنها) narrates that the Noble Messenger ﷺ said:
"خلقت الملائكة من نور، وخلق الجان من مارج من نار، وخلق آدم مما وصف لكم"
"The angels were created from light, the jinn were created from a smokeless flame of fire, and Adam was created from that which has been described to you (i.e., clay)."
[Sahih Muslim, Hadith No. 2996]
