❀ Question:

Were the Companions (رضي الله عنهم) during the time of the Prophet ﷺ given salaries from the Bayt al-Mal for state and religious services, including leading prayer?

✔ Ruling:

During the Prophetic era, those Companions who were appointed as 'ʿāmil' (governor or amir) in various regions were provided financial support from the Bayt al-Mal according to their needs. This support was intended to cover their basic necessities and was not a fixed salary in the modern sense.

This arrangement was not based on remuneration for specific religious or governmental duties like leading prayer or administering affairs, but rather to enable them to fulfill their responsibilities without hardship.

Thus, contrary to the notion that the Companions received salaries for Imamate or administrative roles, they were given need-based financial assistance without any formal salary structure.
