Is Fidyah Required for Spending the Night Outside Muzdalifah’s Boundaries?

Question

If a person, due to not knowing the boundaries of Muzdalifah, spends the night outside its limits, what is required of him?

Answer

Alḥamdulillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, Ammā Baʿd!

There is consensus among the scholars that if a person, out of ignorance of the boundaries of Muzdalifah, spends the night outside of it, Fidyah becomes obligatory upon him. This means he must slaughter a sheep and distribute its meat among the poor of Makkah al-Mukarramah, because he has omitted one of the obligatory acts (Wājibāt) of Hajj.

Important Reminder

At this point, I would like to draw the attention of my fellow pilgrims to an important matter:

❀ It is essential to know the boundaries of ʿArafah and Muzdalifah.

❀ Many people set up tents outside the boundaries of ʿArafah, stay there until sunset, and then leave without ever entering ʿArafah’s limits.

❀ Remember: It is obligatory for every pilgrim to know and enter within the boundaries of ʿArafah.

Alḥamdulillāh! In our times, the boundaries of ʿArafah are marked with clear signs, so there should be no difficulty in identifying them.

ھذا ما عندي والله أعلم بالصواب
(This is my opinion, and Allah knows best what is correct.)
