Excerpt from: Urdu Sharḥ ʿUmdat al-Aḥkām — Translated by: Ḥāfiẓ Faizullah Nāṣir
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would wake up at dawn while in the state of janābah due to relations with his wives. Then he would take a ghusl and observe the fast.”
[Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī: 1926, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim: 1109]
✔ The Prophet ﷺ would bathe after fajr entered and then continue his fast.
If one is in a state of janābah at suḥūr time (before dawn):
➤ It is permissible to begin the fast without taking a ghusl.
➤ The ghusl can be delayed until after fajr.
➤ The fast remains valid.
However, it is better (afdhal) to perform ghusl before fajr if possible.
[Kashf al-Lithām: 3/508]
◈ Ḥadīth

◈ Commentary
✔ This hadith clearly shows that being in a state of janābah (major ritual impurity) at fajr time does not invalidate one’s fast.✔ The Prophet ﷺ would bathe after fajr entered and then continue his fast.
