Fasting While in a State of Janabah :.
Question :.
Is it permissible for a person to fast while in a state of janabah if this state was not caused by their intention?
Fatwa :.
It is mentioned in the Hadith that the Prophet (peace be upon him) would wake up for Fajr after having sexual relations while in a state of Janabah, then he would perform Ghusl and keep the fast.
Reference: (Sahih Bukhari, Book of Fasting, Hadith: 1930, Sahih Muslim, Book of Fasting, Hadith: 1109)
Since performing Ghusl from Janabah is necessary for the validity of prayer, it is not permissible to delay the obligatory Ghusl until the time of Fajr prayer. However, if a person falls into a deep sleep while in a state of Janabah and wakes up close to the time of Chasht, he should perform Ghusl as soon as he wakes up and offer the Fajr prayer and continue his fast. Similarly, if a fasting person sleeps during the day and experiences a wet dream, he should wake up, perform Ghusl, and offer the Dhuhr or Asr prayer, whichever is due, and complete his fast.
