Question:
A person fell ill on the 1st or 2nd of Ramadan and remained sick throughout the entire month, unable to fast even for a single day. On the day of Eid-ul-Fitr, he passed away. Are his heirs required to fast on his behalf, feed the poor, or is there no obligation on the deceased or his heirs?
Answer:
If the deceased person was unable to fast due to illness and passed away on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr without getting the opportunity to make up for the missed fasts, then neither fasting nor making up for the missed fasts was obligatory upon him. Since he was incapable of fasting due to illness and later passed away before having the chance to compensate for the missed fasts, there is no obligation upon his heirs either. They are not required to fast on his behalf or feed the poor.
