Falsely Accusing the People of Truth

Authored by: Sheikh al-Islam Muhammad bin Abdul Wahhab (رحمه الله), Translated by: Maulana Mukhtar Ahmad Nadwi (حفظه الله)

One of the behaviors of the people of ignorance was to accuse the followers of the truth of insincerity and worldly desires. Allah refuted this baseless accusation through the words of Prophet Noah (عليه السلام), as mentioned in the Quran:

"They said, ‘Should we believe in you when your followers are the lowest among us?’ He (Noah) said, ‘And what knowledge do I have of what they used to do? Their account is only upon my Lord, if you could perceive.’"
(Surah Ash-Shu'ara, 26:111-113)

The intention behind these ignorant individuals' statements was to imply that Prophet Noah’s (عليه السلام) followers were poor and only believed in him for material gains. They accused them of following Noah not because they believed in the truth of his message, but for personal, worldly benefits. However, Allah refuted these accusations, emphasizing that the followers of Noah were sincere in their belief, and their accountability rested with Allah alone.

This teaches us that baseless accusations against the people of truth are a tactic used by those who fail to recognize the sincerity of the righteous, just as it was done to the followers of Prophet Noah (عليه السلام).
