The Ruling on the Narration from Musnad Rabi‘ ibn Habib
Taken from: Fatawa Amunpuri by Shaykh Ghulam Mustafa Zaheer Amunpuri
❖ Question:
What is the ruling on the following narration?
Narrated by ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
كأني بقوم يأتون من بعدي يرفعون أيديهم فى الصلاة، كأنها أذناب خيل شمس
“It is as if I am seeing a people who will come after me, raising their hands in prayer, like the tails of unruly horses.”
(Musnad al-Rabi‘ ibn Habib: 1/45)
❖ Answer:
This narration is false. Musnad Rabi‘ ibn Habib is an unauthentic and baseless book. Its author, Rabi‘ ibn Habib, is unknown.
✿ Shaykh al-Albani (رحمه الله, 1420H) said:
الربيع بن حبيب إباضي مجهول ليس له ذكر فى كتب أئمتنا، ومسنده هذا هو صحيح الإباضية، وهو مليء بالأحاديث الواهية والمنكرة
“Rabi‘ ibn Habib was an Ibadi and is unknown. There is no mention of him in the works of our Imams. His Musnad is regarded as the ‘Sahih’ by the Ibadis, yet it is filled with weak and rejected narrations.”
