❀ Is Extravagance Inspired by Satan? ❀
Compiled by: Dr. Raza Abdullah Pasha حفظه الله

❖ Question:

Is extravagance from Satan?

❖ Answer:

Allah Almighty states:

"إِنَّ الْمُبَذِّرِينَ كَانُوا إِخْوَانَ الشَّيَاطِينِ ۖ وَكَانَ الشَّيْطَانُ لِرَبِّهِ كَفُورًا ﴿٢٧﴾"
[Al-Isrā’: 27]

“Indeed, the spendthrifts are brothers of the devils, and Satan has always been ungrateful to his Lord.”

Sayyiduna Ibn Mas‘ūd رضي الله عنه
said:
“Tabdhīr (extravagance) refers to spending in unlawful ways.”

Another interpretation is that tabdhīr refers to foolishness, disobedience of Allah, and committing acts of sin.

✔ Key Points:

Extravagance is condemned and linked directly to Satan.
Spendthrifts are described as brothers of devils, highlighting the severity of the act.
Satan’s nature is ungratefulness to his Lord, and those who spend wastefully imitate this behavior.
Tabdhīr includes spending wealth in sinful, useless, or unlawful matters.
⑤ Extravagance reflects foolishness and disobedience, both of which are avenues of satanic influence.
