Introduction
In Question No. 35, a religious scholar presented eight claims during a public sermon. Some of these are extremely strange and contradict the foundational beliefs of Islam. In response to an inquiry by Abdul Haleem from Sarawa Patna, a detailed and researched answer was provided. Below is a comprehensive analysis of each of the eight claims in light of the Qur’an and authentic Hadith.
Molvi Sahib's Eight Claims:
① The Prophet ﷺ was born from light.
② If Allah ﷻ had not created the Prophet ﷺ, neither the heavens, the earth, nor jinn and mankind would have been created.
③ The saliva of the Prophet ﷺ was fragrant.
④ The urine and feces of the Prophet ﷺ were fragrant.
⑤ The companions used to apply his saliva to their bodies.
⑥ The Prophet ﷺ used to hide his saliva and urine.
⑦ Once, he ﷺ hid his urine under a bed, and a maid drank it mistaking it for perfume.
⑧ The blessed body of the Prophet ﷺ cast no shadow.
Claim ①: The Prophet ﷺ was born from light
Presented Evidences:
➊ أول ما خلق الله نوري
➋ يا جابر، أول ما خلق الله نور نبيك من نوره
➌ أنا من نور الله من الله والمؤمنون مني
Research-Based Response:
◈ The first narration is Mu‘allaq (suspended without a chain of transmission) and is considered fabricated by hadith scholars.
◈ The second narration from Musannaf ‘Abd al-Razzaq is also without a chain and listed among fabrications.
◈ Authentic ahadith establish that the first creation was the Pen:
➤ أول ما خلق الله القلم
(Ahmad 5/317, Tirmidhi 4/457, Abu Dawud 5/76)
◈ Renowned scholars like Hafiz Ibn Hajar, Mulla Ali Qari, Ibn Taymiyyah, and Al-Sakhawi unanimously declared the third and fourth narrations as fabricated.
◈ Hadith from Sahih Muslim:
خلقت الملائكة من نور، وخلق الجان من نار، وخلق آدم مما وصف لكم
(Sahih Muslim 4/229)
◈ The Prophet ﷺ is from the progeny of Adam (peace be upon him), who was created from clay. Thus, his human nature is certain.
Conclusion:
The belief that the Prophet ﷺ was created from light is invalid both rationally and textually. The Ahl al-Hadith do not hold this belief.
Claim ②: Everything was created for the Prophet ﷺ
◈ The oft-quoted narration "لولاك لما خلقت الأفلاك" is frequently cited by innovators, yet it is fabricated.
References:
➤ As-Saghani said: Fabricated, as mentioned in Al-Khulasa
(Tadhkirat al-Mawdu‘at, p. 86; Mawdu‘at Kabir, p. 59)
◈ Other narrations also state:
If not for you, I would not have created Paradise… Hell… the world.
(Narrated by Daylami, Ibn Asakir)
Conclusion:
These narrations are fabricated and unreliable. No authentic basis for such a belief exists.
Claim ③: His ﷺ saliva was fragrant
◈ There is no authentic or even weak hadith proving that his saliva was fragrant.
◈ If a narration is found with a sound chain, there would be no objection in accepting it.
Claim ④: His ﷺ urine and feces were fragrant
◈ This claim is false, baseless, and fabricated.
◈ No narration confirms it.
Claim ⑤: The Companions applied his ﷺ saliva on their bodies
◈ It is true that the companions, out of deep love, used to seek blessings (tabarruk) through his saliva, spit, and water from his ablution.
Reference:
➤ Hafiz Ibn Hajar:
"In it is the purity of phlegm… and seeking blessings through the pure leftovers of righteous people."
(Fath al-Bari)
◈ However, this does not prove fragrance, but rather the intention of seeking blessings.
Claim ⑥: He ﷺ used to hide his saliva and urine
◈ There is no evidence that the Prophet ﷺ used to hide his saliva.
◈ The purpose of hiding his urine and feces was modesty, privacy, and concealment, not to prevent blessings.
Claim ⑦: A maid drank his ﷺ urine due to its fragrance
Actual Incident:
◈ Umm Ayman (RA) mistakenly drank the contents of a bowl at night, thinking it was water, but it was urine.
Narrated:
"She erred and drank it… He ﷺ said: 'You will never suffer from abdominal pain after this day.'"
(Al-Isabah 4/433)
◈ This incident does not establish that the urine was fragrant or that it was intentionally consumed.
◈ According to some jurists, the Prophet’s ﷺ excretions were pure, but there is no authentic statement from any of the four Imams to confirm this.
Claim ⑧: The blessed body of the Prophet ﷺ cast no shadow
◈ This claim depends on the earlier claim that he ﷺ was created from light.
◈ Since the light-origin theory is invalid, the notion that he ﷺ had no shadow is also baseless and absurd.
Additional Notes
◈ Some narrations mention the fragrance of the Prophet’s ﷺ sweat, but these narrations too are:
➤ Hadith: The people of Madinah would smell it… and they named the house “Bayt al-Mutayyibeen”
(Al-Fawa'id al-Majmu‘ah, p. 205)
➤ In it is Hasan al-Kalbi, who is abandoned as a narrator
(Majma‘ al-Zawa'id 8/283)
◈ Therefore, such narrations are near fabricated and unreliable.
Conclusion
All eight claims made by the Molvi Sahib are unproven, based on fabricated narrations, and contrary to the creed of Ahl al-Hadith. Some of the statements are outright false, irrational, and based on ignorance. Such beliefs are often found among innovators, and attributing them to the Ahl al-Hadith is completely incorrect.
The Reality Is:
The Qur'an and authentic Hadith are replete with countless virtues of the Prophet ﷺ. There is no need for lies, exaggeration, or fabricated stories to affirm his greatness.
