◈ Mi'raj and Human Consciousness
To say that modern science represents the pinnacle of the evolution of human consciousness is not far from reality. Yet, scientists believe that mankind has only understood 5% of the abilities granted by nature — the remaining 95% remain concealed.
The Mi'raj of the Prophet ﷺ serves as a luminous example for understanding these hidden capabilities and cosmic realities.
◈ Scientific Challenges of the Mi'raj
Modern science outlines several challenges that would make such a journey impossible by human standards:
① The Problem of Gravity
Escaping Earth's orbit requires a speed of at least 40,000 km/h, which was beyond human capabilities at the time.
② Life in Outer Space
There is no air in space beyond Earth, while humans require oxygen to survive.
③ Extreme Temperatures
During space travel, the sun’s rays can be scorching, and the shade can be freezing, both of which are potentially fatal.
④ Dangerous Radiations
Radiations such as cosmic rays, ultraviolet rays, and X-rays are extremely harmful to human beings.
⑤ Weightlessness
The condition of zero gravity in space can have severe effects on the human body.
⑥ Traveling Beyond the Speed of Light
The speed of light is considered the highest possible. According to modern theories, if travel faster than light were possible, the constraints of time would no longer apply.
◈ Mi'raj: Physical or Spiritual?
Some interpret the Mi'raj as a dream or spiritual journey, but the verse beginning with "سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي" in the Qur'an clearly indicates that it was a physical journey.
Allah ﷻ demonstrated His power by taking His Prophet ﷺ beyond the natural laws.
◈ Scientific Explanations in Light of Mi'raj
❶ Einstein’s Theory of Relativity
According to the Theory of Relativity:
- Special Relativity: For one traveling near the speed of light, time slows down.
- General Relativity: Time and space are like a fabric upon which all physical objects move.
The Mi'raj journey aligns with this concept, as time did not pass on Earth while the Prophet ﷺ was absent.
❷ Four-Dimensional World and Human Limitations
Science states that humans are confined to a four-dimensional limitation (time and space). In the Mi'raj, the Prophet ﷺ was freed from these constraints and shown another dimension.
❸ Time Travel
Traveling faster than light, or Time Travel, is still within the realm of scientific possibility today.
The Mi'raj event reinforces this concept — the Prophet ﷺ traveled at a speed greater than light.
◈ Al-Buraq: The Vehicle of Mi'raj
According to narrations, the Prophet ﷺ was made to ride Buraq during the journey of Mi'raj. The word Buraq is derived from "Barq" (lightning).
- Lightning travels at a speed of 186,000 miles per second, a velocity that can cause time to freeze.
- Modern research confirms that if something travels at this speed, time stands still.
◈ The Qur'an and the Scientific Reality of Mi'raj
"Glory be to the One Who took His servant by night from Masjid al-Haram to Masjid al-Aqsa…”
(Surah Al-Isra, Verse 1)
This verse testifies to the extraordinary nature of the Mi'raj. Allah’s power transcends all boundaries.
As also stated:
"And Our command is but like the blinking of an eye."
(Surah Al-Qamar: 50)
◈ Modern Observations and the Truth of Mi'raj
- Today, spacecraft have overcome gravity.
- Humans have become capable of enduring zero gravity.
- Advanced technology now protects against harmful radiations.
If humans can achieve so much with limited capacity, then why can't Allah ﷻ, with infinite power, do far greater?
◈ Mi'raj: A Manifestation of Belief in the Unseen
The event of Mi'raj, like other miracles of the Prophets, is a sign of Allah’s divine power, demanding belief in the unseen (Iman bil-Ghayb).
The Qur'an instructs us to accept Allah’s might with certainty and faith.
Conclusion
The event of Mi'raj can indeed be supported by modern scientific theories, yet its true reality lies in understanding Allah’s power and the exalted rank of the Prophet ﷺ.
It transcends the limits of human knowledge and reason, and thus, should be accepted on the foundation of faith and conviction, as required by the essence of Islam.
