Exchanging Old Household Items for New Ones by Paying the Price Difference

Author: Dr. Muhammad Zia-ur-Rahman Azmi (رحمہ الله)

It is permissible to exchange old household items for new ones by paying the price difference between them. There is no harm in such a transaction because it falls under a lawful sale (Halal Bay’) and is not prohibited in Islamic law.

However, this is only allowed if the exchange does not involve a conditional agreement where one sale is dependent on the other.
