Even a Sip Intoxicates: The Absolute Prohibition of Alcohol

📜 Hadith References:
  • From Sa’d bin Abī Waqqāṣ (RA), the Prophet ﷺ said:
"I forbid you from even a little of that which intoxicates in large amounts."
    [An-Nasā’ī: 8/301, Dārimī: 5, Ibn Ḥibbān: 1386, Al-Bayhaqī: 8/296]
  • Another narration:
"Whatever intoxicates in large quantities, even a little of it is ḥarām."
[Abū Dāwūd: 3681, Tirmidhī: 1865, Ibn Mājah: 3393]

📌 Key Insights:
There is no minimum permissible quantity of alcohol in Islam. Whether it is a drop or a full cup, if it can intoxicate in large amounts, even a little of it is categorically ḥarām.

This prohibition is rooted in preserving human intellect, a core objective of Islamic law (maqāṣid ash-sharīʿah).

Even tasting alcohol is impermissible, except when necessary for legal investigation or identification purposes.
