Hadith on Reciting a Supplication Before Entering the Toilet

Narrated by Anas bin Malik (رضي الله عنه):
"Whenever the Prophet (ﷺ) would enter the toilet, he would say: اللهم إني أعوذ بك من الخبث والخبائث (O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the male and female devils)."
[Muttafaqun ‘Alayh - Agreed Upon]

Verification and Referencing: Sahih Bukhari & Sahih Muslim

Key Points Derived from the Hadith

It is Sunnah to recite this supplication before entering the toilet.
This supplication seeks protection from the harm of jinns and devils, as they dwell in impure places.
Both male and female jinns are harmful and can cause disturbances to human beings, making it essential to seek Allah’s protection.
Using the phrase اللهم (O Allah!) when making supplication is permissible, and such supplications are accepted.
Islam promotes a system of spiritual discipline. It encourages reciting supplications before entering and leaving the toilet, entering and exiting the mosque, and many other occasions, ensuring that a believer remains engaged in the remembrance of Allah throughout the day.

Prohibition of Facing Each Other or Talking While Relieving Oneself

Narrated by Jabir bin Abdullah (رضي الله عنه):
"The Prophet (ﷺ) said: ‘When two men relieve themselves together, each should conceal himself from the other, and they should not converse while doing so, for Allah dislikes this act.’"

Verification and Referencing:
This hadith is classified as weak. Hafiz Ibn Hajar stated that the hadith is defective (ma‘lul), and it has been cited in Nayl al-Awtar by Imam Al-Shawkani.

Key Points Derived from This Hadith

Facing each other or conversing while relieving oneself is prohibited in Islam.
When multiple people are relieving themselves at the same time, they should ensure privacy, as modesty (haya) is an essential part of Islam.
This hadith indicates that Allah expresses displeasure over inappropriate actions, just as He expresses happiness over righteous deeds.
It is prohibited to greet someone (by saying Salam) while urinating, and responding to a greeting while relieving oneself is also forbidden.
Calling out to someone while urinating is improper and should be avoided.
