Question

Without any excuse, is it against the respect of the Qur’an to recline, lie down, or lean on a pillow while holding it open to recite or to make someone listen? Likewise, is it disrespectful to place the Qur’an or a book of Hadith on the ground in front of one’s feet while reading?

Answer

Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd!

✿ The Noble Qur’an and the books of ḥadīth are among those things whose respect is obligatory.

✿ Therefore, while reading or listening to them, one must not assume any position or manner that carries an aspect of disrespect or dishonor.
